Remember The Nest?

I recently posted about the nest in the hanging plant on my front porch.

Well, the first baby hatched on the morning of the 11th.  The 2nd baby hatched the next day.
Aww...little pink newborn!

After they hatched, the parents have really been busy with feeding.  Talk about a full time job!  (I can kind of relate, as I have had 4 teenaged boys.  My youngest is now 13 and pretty much needs a feeding every couple of hours.)

We have been checking on the babies every day and taking a picture while the parents are off collecting worms and such.  They are growing so fast!  They were just little pink blobs at first and now they are young birds who are laying around, waiting for their next feeding, and watching us when we come to take their picture.

The 3rd egg never did hatch.  It's funny though, because after seeing how they've grown, you have to wonder how they would have ever fit another baby in there....
I thought that maybe the parents had kicked out the egg that didn't hatch because as they've grown I couldn't see it anymore.
But then I saw this little bit of blue between them...

The parents really complain if we take to long when we check out their children.  We can't really even use the porch at all because it stresses them so much.  They stand out on the front lawn and chirp! chirp! chirp! until we leave.  Yesterday I had washed and dried my quilt that goes on the glider and oh! what complaints I heard when I went to put it back...
She comes right back when you go inside.
You can almost hear their little adolescent complaining.... how much longer?? when are we going to eat again?? mom!  Mo-o-o-om!
"Hey...what's up...."
I haven't gone out to take a picture yet today but the kids say that they have been watching them this morning and at a glance they look like the parents sitting in the nest.

I hope we don't miss the point where they begin to leave.  We watch them pretty closely.  I do look forward to using my front porch again but I will miss them when they're gone.

That is amazing! You will probably watch them attempt to fly first. I've many times had to scoop them up and put them back in the nest before a pet got to them.

So cute, love the pictures. We have lots of nesting going on in our yard. When the finches built a nest in the support arm of the carport, I watched them and when it was almost time for them to leave the nest I put lots of pine straw under the nest because they are most likely going to fall out of the nest and then learn to fly and they can be injured if they fall on concrete or rocks.

Thanks for the pictures as there's not many times in life when you get that opportunity close up. I have a nest every year outside my bathroom but I can't see into it and outside it is too far up to see. She picked a good place to build a nest....if I didn't hear them or see her fly out every time I open the window in that room, I would have never known she was there. But in all these years she's built her nest there and had babies every year...I have yet to see one!
