My Goofy Bird

This is my bird.  His name is actually Sammy, but no one calls him that.  Everyone calls him Budgie.  I know that the Budgie is another type of bird but it is a cute word to say so it stuck.

Budgie is demanding, opinionated, loud, and devoted to one thing.... our cat Josephine.

He loves Jo.  LOVES her.  He is lucky too because she is extremely tolerant of him.  He likes to have his cage placed near her always, and when he is out for exercise he sits above her, beside her, or even on her.  Josephine doesn't seem to mind as she is a pretty lazy cat and she will lay on the couch or bed all day and let him adore her.

He wolf-whistles at her and says she's a pretty bird.  Especially if she's grooming herself...it gets ridiculous.

If he gets too pesty she will just roll over and knock him off.  I've seen her swat him off too, when he is acting like an annoying insect.  Mostly though, they just veg out.

When he is out of his cage and she gets up to get a drink or something, he will go walking through the house with her and that is pretty doggone funny to watch.  When they come around the corner and through the doorway, well, it still cracks me up every time.

I don't know if this is normal behavior for a bird because he's the only bird I have ever owned.

He likes to hang out with me too.  He likes to sit on my shoulder when I'm sewing and I give him his own little piece of fabric to drag around on the table when I am cutting things out.  He likes to walk across my laptop keyboard, which I hate, so I usually give him junk mail to tear up.
He likes to sit with me and check out foodgawker recipes.  He prefers Mexican dishes.  I'm with him on that.

He's not hard to catch because he wants to be with you.  If he's in the mood to be stubborn about it though, you just grab Josephine and he will go wherever you go.  He simply cannot resist.

And that is the story of my demanding little bird!

OMG! That's hysterical! I don't know if it's normal behavior for a bird but I DO know that is NOT normal behavior for a cat! Cat's eat birds, stalk them, revel in killing them...so what's up with your cat? LOL! They are so darn cute together! I'm thinking if you made a video of them together it would go viral on You Tube! Budgie is the cutest darn bird I have ever seen! He deserves his own T.V. show...I just can't get over it! How long have you been keeping him "caged up", I mean a secret from the world? He's a riot...you/he made my day...I wonder if I could get an autographed picture of him? I would smile every time I looked at it. We need to Skype! I love that bird and your cat is abnormally tolerant therefore I love her too! LOL!

I have a friend who has a budgie that only goes in it's cage at night the rest of the time it has free run of the house... they have two country cats that like to hunt but they seem to know that this one they are not allowed to eat, while they are not best friends they tolerate each other!

Yeah I forgot to mention that I have two other full time house cats who get along with the bird also. But he only has eyes for Jo...

Although strangely enough, I have one old white cat who comes inside occasionally, and the bird HATES him. When they cross paths it is the bird who is obnoxious, not the cat. Go figure.

Cathy, I am in LOVE with your little Budgie! You should submit those photos to a pet magazine or website - they are just too cute for words! And look at sweet Josephine. Thanks for making my day with this sweet post!!!... Donna
