Machine Quilting

Yesterday, for the first time, I tried out machine quilting on my new sewing machine.

Holy Guacamole I am in love.

I have never done any quilting except what I have done by hand, which can take months for a single quilt.  That's great if you want to create an heirloom.  But sometimes I put all this work into this quilting the quilt and then get a little bit fierce about anyone using it.  I would like to be able to create some patchwork projects that I can be a little more relaxed about and also feel free to give away and not worry about all of that work going into it.

So I did a little bit of practice on a couple of patchwork table runners that I had laying around.

Well, first I watched a couple of youtube tutorials on the tv (with the boys, who begged offered to mow the lawn if I didn't make them watch any more sewing videos).

I tested everything for about 30 seconds on some scrap fabric and then went to town on my runners.  So simple!  From then on I was listening to some mp3s and sewing along and looking out the window and the lawn being mowed...made for a perfect afternoon!

All finished!  In one afternoon!
I have a few quilt tops stored away that I can't wait to get to, plus a couple more patchwork table runners.  And the new things I have planned to make....ah, so many little time!

It will have to wait just a little bit though as I have my first machine embroidery class tonight.
I will post more on that later...

Wow! You are amazing! You picked that up right away. My lines would have been all wonky and I probably would have worked my way into a dead end corner. But look at you! A natural, for sure!

Wow! What kind of machine did you get? I need to watch those videos as it is pricey to get things machine quilted. That was funny about your boys! LOL! I wish I would have known that years ago...yeah..threaten them with having to watch sewing videos over and over again! LOL! Your table runner is so pretty and you did a great job!
