Little Changes to the Dining Room

Over the weekend I was inspired to make some changes to my dining room but I didn't actually begin anything until Monday.  And then of course I tried to do it all in a short time before going out with my daughter-in-law to get a craigslist-special buffet.  (She loves my roomy Suburban and the strong teenager that rides along to help lift things.)

So anyway, in the dining room, I basically have three large heavy pieces of furniture that all traded places.  Picture a triangle of furnishings and me saying "Ok!  Let's everybody take a step to the left!"  Oh, if was only that easy...
The secretary and some of the contents...

The heaviest was the piano, but the most tedious was the china hutch cabinet.  The china is delicate and it had to all be stacked on the dining room table, piece by piece.  The secretary was the lightest of the three but it still needed all of the books taken out and then put back in.
On a shelf in the secretary
I am so glad I did it though!  It was one of those why-didn't-I-do-this-years-ago moments.  The room is small and somewhat narrow and the piano was on the side of the room (ask me how many times I have banged my hip walking around the piano) and now it is at the end of the room.  It feels so much bigger.

The piano is now centered on the bay window which blocks less light than the old arrangement did.

I am still finishing up with picture arranging (boy, how one rearrange in one room sure can trickle down to picture-swapping all over the place) and will try to post a before and after later on.
