Barn Scenes and Naughty Sheep

Took a few more pictures down in the barn.  These are from the lower level, where the animals are free to come and go.
Somebody is curious as to what I am doing down here...

A little black hen, looking for a private place to nest...
No privacy with barn cats around....

Good old Lamb (his name), always gentle and calm.

I always like the sheep, although they are usually nervous and run away from you.  That is because they are raised by their mothers and therefore wilder.  Sometimes, as in the case of our two male sheep in residence, the lambs are bottle-fed and forever tame.  Lambs get rejected by their mothers occasionally, or in rare cases, the mother might die leaving lambs behind.  In the case of our two males, they were both injured at very young ages and had to be brought in the house for care.  They look upon us, their caregivers, as mother from then on.

Lamb (above) was the kids playmate when they were little and has always been a tame and friendly companion.  He has had some tough injuries and some miraculous recoveries and has earned a place of honor here on the farm.

Earnest, (below) was also injured as a lamb and bottle fed with our family.  He has been a close companion of our daughters' over these years and he gets to be on pretty thin ice at times.  Emma and Earnest will fight a bit and it's not uncommon to hear her yell at him and see him run off as he knows he's in trouble.  He seems to be in a perpetual state of "mischievous teenager".  Basically, he can be a real brat.
Earnest, at my back door yesterday, wanting in.  He escaped from the barnyard and nibbled on my rosebushes, until Emma went out and gave him heck and he went back to his barnyard buddies.    Grrr....Earnest!

I really enjoy the animals and all of the personalities they have.  I even enjoy some of Earnests' antics, unless it has anything to do with my garden.

Your adventures with Earnest make me want to start animal husbandry!
Not to mention how quaint your barn photos look. Who wouldn't want to give it a try?
