Junk + A Little Ingenuity = Great Party Decor

This past Saturday was the party to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. They wanted to have the party at home, so it was my job to come up with some decor to make it special.

And one way to make it fun was to incorporate a dance floor into the decor. Because after all of that preparing, you want to relax and have a great time!

Here's what I started out with. A cement pad outside of the garage. A perfect dance floor, right?
So we were wracking our brains for ideas on how to, without spending any money, get some lighting for our dance floor. Hmmm.....

We tossed around a lot of ideas. Then one our girls remembered that we had some columns in the barn that someone had given to dad. (Handy hubby does a lot of carpentry and he had brought these columns home after doing a job replacing them with newer ones for a customer).

So we came up with an idea of building a square. That we could hang lights from. Hubby built a base for each column so that it could be vertical.
He then painted them with free paint from the basement.
He then painted some 2 x 4's white also to brace the 4 columns together and give us something to hang lights from. Then they hauled them over to set up.
I made some buntings out of scrap fabric and dragged my front porch plants over to decorate.

The large rented tent was over to the left of the garage. The colors were festive!
I was trying to place plants around strategically to avoid tripping hazards like thes speaker stands....
The screen at the far end was set up for part of the show that my oldest son and his friends put on for grandma and grandpa.
The lights hanging from our homemade column-square-thing looked awesome and the dance floor was a big hit!
The show put on by the kids was a H-U-G-E hit (so hilarious) and Peter, the tech boy gave us a great sound system. We danced until (ahem...2 a.m..... Seriously, I probably lost 5 lbs dancing around like a teenager and then probably have gained them back this week from sitting around with sore legs! ha!)

It was a lot of fun. Wish I had more pictures, but in all of the party chaos, no one remembered to take any. I do, however, have pictures of the cake made by Emily, which I will share later.

That was really a creative idea for the dance floor! It all turned out so nicely. I like the bright colors.
I hope your legs get to feeling better!
